While talking about collaborating with Mani Ratnam again for Ponniyin Selvan 2, Gulzar smiled and said, “Not only now, I have been asking him for all those 13 years, when do I get a break again? When do I get a chance again? In fact, I even asked Rahman if he has stopped doing any Hindi work, I will have to learn Tamil and Malayalam. Otherwise there is no other way of teaming up again.”
Echoing similar sentiments, Rahman stated that when the three of them meet, Mani Ratnam and Rahman make it a point to have Gulzar saab narrate some of his iconic poetry and lyrics because they love his voice. To this Gulzar replied, “The best part is that I keep talking in Hindi completely aware that they will not understand anything and by the time they start understanding Hindi, I start talking in Punjabi (laughs).”
Ponniyin Selvan 2, a sequel to Mani Ratnam’s hit from last year will release tomorrow.
