Ameesha Patel was advised not to take up Gadar-Ek Prem Katha – Times of India



Twenty two years ago, Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel‘s Gadar-Ek Prem Katha shattered box office records, becoming one of the biggest blockbusters in Indian cinema history. Now, the sequel to this iconic film is set to release during the Independence Day weekend. To allow the audience to relive the magic of the original, the makers decided to re-release the film for a limited time, holding premieres in Mumbai, Delhi and Jaipur, along with attaching the sequel’s teaser to it.The response to the re-release was thunderous.
During an interview, Ameesha Patel opened up about her experience with the film. She revealed that when she initially signed on for Gadar, many A-list producers had discouraged her from taking up the project. Despite making her debut as a college student alongside Hrithik Roshan in Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, Ameesha faced skepticism and questions about why she would choose such a challenging role early in her career. Playing the mother of a seven-year-old with a significant age gap between herself and Sunny Deol puzzled many in the industry.
However, Ameesha fell in love with the script of Gadar from the moment she heard it. It was Mr. Nittin Keni who saw her potential and selected her for the role of Sakina. Reflecting on her experience working on the film, she mentioned that the scale of its success was unpredictable. Nevertheless, she knew she was a part of a beautiful project that would touch the hearts of many.
