Recently, in a chat with News18, Bengali actor Churni Ganguly, who plays Rani’s (Alia) mother in the movie, opened up on the uproar created by the scene in which Ranveer’s character Rocky calls poet Rabindranath Tagore ‘Dadaji‘, seeing a picture of him at Rani’s house. Justifying the same, Churni said that there are certain things that are common to each Bengali household. While others might call it stereotypes, they are in fact, just normal things for Bengalis. Elaborating further, she said that a lot of Bengali households have a picture of Rabindranath Tagore on the wall and going by how Rocky’s character is portrayed in the movie, it worked out well that he did not know who he was and addressed him as ‘Dadaji’.
Churni also quipped that it does not matter if it is a wedding, Bengalis will never wear a lehenga and will stick to their sarees, just like Rani wears throughout the movie.
Recently, The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) had reportedly asked the producers to chop a few scenes containing abusive words and remove references to West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, including the dialogue ‘Khela hobe’ (Game on) — the slogan of her party TMC during the 2021 Assembly elections.
