Released on Thursday, September 29, the film surpassed all expectations, reportedly amassing a staggering ₹6 crores worldwide on its first day of release.
Reports also say that the film had an impressive opening at the Kerala box office as it raked in over Rs 2 crores on its opening day, making ‘Kannur Squad’ the second-highest-grossing Malayalam film on its opening day in Kerala in 2023.
As per the first reviews, ‘Kannur Squad’ didn’t just captivate viewers with its exciting story but also attracted a lot of movie fans, especially during its thrilling late-night screenings in Kerala and the GCC regions. The movie’s engaging plot, along with Mammootty’s strong performance, led to a lot of ticket sales even though there were not any magnificent promotional events for the most anticipated Mammootty starrer.
‘Kannur Squad’, touted to be a crime drama film, revolves around ASI George Martin and his dedicated team, including Jose, Jayan, and Shafi. Together, they embark on an undercover mission to apprehend a notorious criminal gang, despite grappling with a multitude of obstacles and challenges both within and outside the bounds of the law.
The story of this Mammootty starrer is penned by Muhammed Shafi and the actor Rony David under the directorial brilliance of Roby Varghese Raj who has previously worked as a cinematographer for several superhit films.
Apart from Mammootty, ‘Kannur Squad’ also has the actors Vijayaraghavan, Kishore, Rony David, Shabareesh Varma, and Azees Nedumangad in significant roles and the first reviews hail the performances of the cast in this police drama.
