Dhak Dhak producer Pranjal Khandhdhiya: Every film finds its audience – Times of India

Taapsee Pannu is one of the finest actors in the movie business and she took things to the next level when she turned producer. She has already made two films, Blurr and Dhak Dhak. While the first one had her playing the lead, the second one was led by Ratna Pathak Shah, Dia Mirza, Fatima Sana Sheikh and Sanjana Sanghi. The film which released on Friday has managed to collect nearly Rs 5 crore at the box office.Talking about the decision of backing the filmPranjal Khandhdiya who co-produced the film with Taapsee, said, “One of the most important aspects of Dhak Dhak was the relatability, all those four women in the film can be anyone’s sister, mother, wife, girlfriend etc”

The film was in news as the makers hardly had any time to promote the film. “Sadly filmmaking is not just about making the film, it also includes putting the film out there, making enough noise, getting the right window, reaching out to the right audience and that is where the challenges has increased manyfolds for a ‘not a star powered’ film. And in reality, it is makers like us who need to be making more noise as we need it more, but the commerce doesn’t allow that because there is no much return on investment. But the beauty of cinema is that we don’t give up on it and we continue making it and eventually we find an audience, be it on TV or on OTT,” he said.
The film had a very limited release at the box office despite previous week’s releases like Thank You For Coming and Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue hardly doing any better at the box office. The makers were insistent on having a theatrical release as they had made the film so that audiences could enjoy the theatrical experience as they had shot the film in a particular way.
Pranjal and Taapsee have been working together since the last 6 years together and it happened with a casual meeting where he offered her the lead role in Soorma opposite Diljit Dosanjh which he was producing and from there on they became best friends and now business partners. Talking about their equation, he said, “It has been a very exciting journey. We’ve had our ups and downs and we’ve had our differences of opinions, but eventually the outcome is what both of us are chasing.”
