Vijay Sethupati: 10 statements by Vijay Sethupati which reveal the simple soul within | – Times of India

In the glitzy world of cinema, where glamour often takes center stage, actor Vijay Sethupati emerges as a beacon of simplicity. With the release of his latest film, ‘Merry Christmas,’ today, let’s delve into 10 statements by Vijay Sethupati that not only echo his down-to-earth nature but also reveal the simple soul within.
Here’s why Vijay Sethupati doesn’t disclose much about his life
During a conversation with Film Companion, Vijay Sethupati expressed his apprehension about excessive exposure, fearing it might disconnect his audience from the characters he portrays. He shared, “I fear too much exposure, talking so much about films and about myself. I fear I may detach my audience from my characters, and my films. I don’t want to disturb them while watching films. Even on my Instagram, I have only a couple of personal photos. Earlier, there were only one or two award shows and you would get to see actors at very few moments. Now, there is too much exposure, which makes me afraid.”

Challenges of answering the same questions
Reflecting on the challenge of providing answers, he stated, “Bohot sochna padta hai jawaab ke liye, dimaag ka batti nahi jalta hai (I have to think a lot for an appropriate answer. The brain doesn’t work at such times). So, it’s better to keep quiet. If a person thinks of me as an intellectual after watching my film, then let that imagination be. Better to be an intellectual and brilliant actor in someone’s imagination, it’s nice. It’s better than coming and showing myself as a dumb actor. This is not a humble answer, it is real.”
Embracing acceptance amidst body-shaming
In an interaction with Indian Express, Vijay Sethupati opened up about facing body-shaming and the acceptance he found. He revealed, “Main aisa hi tha, body shaming bohot kiya tha mujhe (I have faced a lot of body-shaming for the way I look). Wahaan bhi kiya tha (they also did it). It happened, but the good thing is that people accept you the way you are. Today wherever I go, I am accepted, it is a blessing. (It’s all) thanks to my audience that I am happy being myself. I didn’t expect this, I didn’t…”
The style choices
Regarding his simple style choices, he shared, “Sometimes I am conscious about my costumes because I believe in wearing what I am comfortable in. Sometimes people say I am showing off, sometimes they say I am too simple. Chappal pehnega toh simple matlab kya (how is wearing slippers equal to being simple?). But sometimes I am conscious of that also. If I go to functions, I see people dressed up really well, and I get really conscious. So mostly I try to avoid going for get-togethers and meetings generally, otherwise, I am comfortable.”

Dedication to Shah Rukh Khan in ‘Jawan’
Speaking to First Post, Vijay Sethupati revealed his unwavering commitment to his craft, particularly in the film “Jawan.” He declared, “I did Jawan only for Shah Rukh Khan sir; even if I didn’t get a single penny, I would have still worked with him.”
Taking life in stride
During a conversation with Pinkvilla, Vijay Sethupati shared his laid-back philosophy towards life. He said, “I just came to cinema, I wanted to be a serial artist and then became a hero in the film and then everything it happened, maybe I don’t take life that serious. I’m just the flow. When you have a target and you want to achieve something, it’s like already chalna bahut mushkil hai to upar aur zyada vazan rahega aur bhi mushkil ho jaayega (you have a long journey to cover and with mental pressure it will become even more difficult). Just you go. It’s nice. You may cross deserts, mountains, seas-everything. It’s an experience.”

Language and confidence
In an interview with PTI, Vijay Sethupati expressed gratitude for the opportunities that came his way, admitting, “It is a huge blessing and I didn’t expect this. I didn’t have this much confidence. I was worried about my language (skills). When they approached me for Mumbaikar or Gandhi Talks, I was like I’m going to do only that and it’s not going to be many films.”
Fan love
He also emphasized the significance of fan love, saying, “I believe fans are fans and their love is so true. Receiving love from fans is like an energy drink. When people love you, it gives you hope that your work has reached people they have understood and they really like your work. That’s what I understood from the fan clubs. That always gives me energy.”
Working with Katrina Kaif
During a press conference, Vijay Sethupati discussed his initial apprehension about working with Katrina Kaif. He admitted, “I like Katrina, she has been in the industry for almost two decades. I didn’t know how she would behave, so thoda darr tha as I was going to work with her. Suppose the actor has an attitude then it becomes difficult to share the screen with them because the rhythm would not match. But the moment she entered and the discussion began, it was so healthy and sensible. She likes to talk more, discuss more, listen more and everything is more, which made me very comfortable, so the first fear is gone.”
