Contrary to reports, Bobby Deol to NOT play the role of Kumbhakarna in Nitesh Tiwari’s ‘Ramayana’ – Exclusive | – Times of India



Following the success of Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s ‘Animal,’ Ranbir Kapoor is set to commence shooting for ‘Ramayana’ alongside Sai Pallavi and Yash. Earlier speculations suggested that the makers were considering Bobby Deol for the role of Kumbhakarna in the film.
Upon learning about these reports, ETimes reached out to Bobby’s team for confirmation. However, his team has categorically denied the ongoing speculations, asserting that Bobby Deol is not involved in Nitesh Tiwari‘s ‘Ramayana.’

Earlier reports indicated that the makers were eager to cast Lara Dutta as Princess Kaikeyi, the third consort of King Dashrath and the mother of Prince Bharat. Additionally, they had envisioned Bobby for the role of Kumbhakarna, the younger brother of Ravana, known for his colossal size and insatiable appetite.

According to Pinkvilla, Lara is largely on board for the project, while Bobby is taking time to assess his options amid numerous offers following the success of ‘Animal.’ The report also suggested that Sunny is considering the role of Lord Hanuman, anticipating it to be a transformative role similar to what it did for the late Dara Singh.

Further details from the report indicated that Lara’s character would play a significant role in the first part of ‘

Ramayan,’ with Sunny Deol and Bobby Deol joining the cast in the second part. The filming of the initial part is scheduled to begin with Ranbir, and Lara is expected to join the team approximately two months from now. Yash is set to have an expanded role in the second film, with both Yash and Sunny making special appearances in the first film, slated to be shot in July this year. The film, featuring a substantial budget, extensive VFX, and unprecedented action sequences, aims for a release in the latter half of 2025.
