Veteran star Anupam Kher recently reunited with his ‘Saransh‘ director, Mahesh Bhatt, to reminisce about the film’s 19th anniversary. ‘Saransh’ marked Kher’s debut, and he has frequently shared anecdotes about how Bhatt nearly replaced him in the project.
During their chat, the filmmaker mentioned that he made sure Anupam Kher came with him to Bollywood parties so that industry people would notice him. Bhatt recalled that there was a big stylist in the industry, who had a house in Pali Hill. And they’d host parties for stars there. He was invited to one of those parties, and those days, he went wherever free alcohol would take him.
Bhatt added that he asked Anupam to come along. He brought his brother along as well. He introduced him to everybody, and we went and took seats on the balcony. The filmmaker also recalled a time when, at a party, Rajesh Khanna walked in with his girlfriend and Anupam stood up to give up his seat, but the filmmaker told him to sit back down.
The filmmaker revealed that Anupam understood why he told him to sit down. He didn’t tell him to sit down to throw attitude. He mentioned that there were so many empty seats, why was he offering him? he saw a large-hearted man in him, but he had an inferiority complex.
