Akshay Kumar was not the first choice for Rajinikanth’s ‘2.0’ | – Times of India



Shankar’s ‘2.0‘ starring Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar and Amy Jackson was released on November 29, 2018. The overall India collection of the film stood at a total of Rs 519.65 crore. It became the highest grossing Tamil film in Hindi markets.
However, it was Akshay Kumar who left the audience in awe with his bone-chilling performance as the antagonist, Pakshi Rajan.But did you know that Akshay Kumar was not the first choice for the character? Yes, You read it right!
The filmmaker recently mentioned in an interview that instead of Akshay Kumar, they planned to cast a Hollywood star as the film’s antagonist. Reportedly, Arnold Schwarzenegger was the Hollywood actor the producer wanted to cast in his project, but the plan could not go through.
During a media interaction, Shankar had told PTI, “We had thought of casting Arnold. We had talked and allotted dates as well. But somehow things did not work out as the contracts of Hollywood and India are contradictory. So we thought of looking at a good cast from the Indian film industry.”
The filmmaker also explained that how Akshay Kumar was roped in to play this role. He disclosed that Akshay Kumar had been in communication with Lyca Productions, the producers of 2.0, regarding the Hindi version of Kaththi. During these discussions, Akshay’s name emerged as a strong recommendation for the character. Subsequently, the director gradually presented the script to Akshay, who eventually signed on for the film.
Meanwhile, on the work front, Akshay is currently on a promotional spree of his upcoming film, ‘Bade Miyan Chote Miyan’ with Tiger Shroff
For those unaware, Ali Abbas Zafar’s directorial is a remake of the original film of the same name, which was released in 1998. David Dhawan directed the original Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, with Amitabh Bachchan and Govinda playing the lead parts.
