Shah Rukh Khan’s Dunki clocks 11 million viewing hours on OTT; owns a TOP spot in non-English content | – Times of India



Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Dunki‘ seems to have struck a chord with the audience after its release on OTT. At the box office, the film had moderate success and is now trending online after its digital release.
Directed by Rajkumar Hirani, ‘Dunki’ had a theatrical release on December 21, 2023. The film went on to mint Rs 454 crore worldwide, reports Sacnilk. Weeks later, ‘Dunki’ was released on OTT on Valentine’s Day 2024.Since then the movie has clocked 11 million viewing hours and has secured the third spot on the OTT platform’s non-English film category.
‘Dunki’ was based on an illegal migration method of the ‘donkey route’ and also starred Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal and Boman Irani. Speaking about the success of the film, director Rajkumar Hirani had told PTI, “Of course, commercial success matters to me but I try not focus on it at all because the moment you start focusing on it, then you start colouring the kind of film you want to make. I take three or four years to make a film. This time I took five years to make a story. It should be like… let me make this film whatever the fate of the film is. Sometimes you will get a universal audience, sometimes you will get an audience which is in smaller pockets. India is a massive country and there will be all kinds of audiences liking all kinds of films.”
