Randeep Hooda: ‘Swatantra Veer Savarkar’ made me a director – Exclusive | – Times of India

In a candid conversation with ETimes, Bollywood actor Randeep Hooda opened up about the transformative journey with his upcoming film, ‘Swatantra Veer Savarkar,’ where he not only stepped into the shoes of the legendary freedom fighter but also made his directorial debut. Hooda revealed how this project has evolved him into a writer and producer, expressing gratitude to ‘Veer Savarkar’ for expanding his creative horizons.
“Late freedom fighter Savarkar Ji ne muje abhineta se bht bada bna diya.(Savarkarji has made me much more than an actor),” Hooda shared.
“‘Swatantra Veer Savarkar’ made me a director. Made me a writer first, I write short stories also now. He made me a producer then. My contribution to filmmaking multiplied, and I am very thankful to him for it.”

Known for his dedication to the craft, Randeep acknowledged the impact of portraying Savarkar, stating, “Tough time makes tough people, and I think interacting with him and making this film has toughened me up. Bahut sakth jaan the (he was a hard nut to crack).”
Reflecting on the personal transformation, Randeep Hooda admitted, “I was not like him (late Savarkarji) earlier, but now I am becoming a bit like him.”

Drawing parallels between himself and the freedom fighter, he noted shared traits of quick wit, impatience, clarity of vision, and the ability to influence people to align with his mindset. He said he acquired these qualities while making the movie.

Further, after living the character of Savarkar, he could feel a difference in him. Even after the movie, they shared some things in common. “After the movie, I guess now I know how to get across to larger people and stir up some revolutionary feelings in them,” Randeep Hooda concluded.
‘Swatantra Veer Savarkar’ is slated to release on March 22, 2024.
