BTS’ RM was considered for ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ role; Kim Dong Wan cast instead | K-pop Movie News – Times of India

The Korea National Opera recently made headlines as it unveiled the cast and crew set to grace the stage for its anticipated rendition of William Shakespeare‘s timeless classic, ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’, featuring music by Benjamin Britten. In a press conference, Choi Sang Ho, the director of the Korea National Opera, took center stage to divulge intriguing insights into the casting process.

Amidst the buzz surrounding the production, Choi Sang Ho disclosed his aspiration to cast a “well-known musician” for the pivotal role of Puck in the opera. As discussions ensued, attention turned to the internationally acclaimed boy band BTS, with their leader, RM, emerging as a potential candidate for the role.

However, deliberations regarding RM’s potential involvement came to an abrupt halt upon learning of his impending military enlistment. This unexpected development prompted the production team to explore alternative options, ultimately leading to the casting of veteran actor and Shinhwa member Kim Dong Wan in the role of Puck.

Amidst the transition in casting decisions, Kim Dong Wan lightheartedly expressed gratitude for being chosen, quipping, “I’m grateful that the production team chose me over RM after much deliberation”. Meanwhile, the premiere of the opera is scheduled to take place at the Seoul Arts Center on April 11, with performances continuing until April 14.
