The actress, best known for her role in the teen drama ‘Euphoria’, paid homage to vintage Hollywood glamour as she fished out the archival piece from Marc Bouwer. The gown was previously worn by Jolie at the Academy Awards in 2004.
While Jolie’s appearance in the Bouwer gown at the Oscars left an indelible mark on the fashion landscape, it must be noted that the actress was not nominated that year.
Sweeney was a vision of elegance as she strutted down the red carpet and posed for photos. Taking to her handle, the star expressed her joy and ‘honour’ to be able to wear “a piece of history.”
Sharing photos of her look, she wrote, “Thank you @marcbouwer for pulling this iconic dress out of the vault for me, it was an honour to wear a piece of history… and thank you @armanibeauty for letting me play around with your new product.”
Marc Bouwer himself joined in and shared Sweeney’s photos and commemorating the dress’s 20th anniversary, wrote, “From the archives. Worn to the Oscars in 2004 by Angelina Jolie, and now on the beautiful @sydney_sweeney . On its 20th anniversary, I couldn’t ask for a better revival. Thank you @mollyddickson for your impeccable styling & @paulmargolin for helping to make this happen!”
The revival of archival gowns at the Vanity Fair party didn’t end with Sweeney, as fellow star Jennifer Lawrence also graced the event in a vintage Givenchy creation.
Although Sweeney has yet to star in an Oscar-nominated project, her ascent in Hollywood has been marked by notable achievements, including her breakout role in ‘Euphoria’ and the success of the romantic comedy ‘Anyone But You’, which she also produced.
