Kareena Kapoor Khan, who is one of the most popular actors in Bollywood, made her debut in the film industry alongside Abhishek Bachchan in JP Dutta‘s film ‘Refugee’ in 2000. The film not only received critical accolades but also won her an award in the ‘Best Female Debut’ category. During an interview with Rediff in May 2000, Kareena had talked about her bond with Abhishek.
In response to a question on how she would rank Abhishek Bachchan in the film ‘Refugee’, Kareena had replied, “As an actor, he is better, at least I find him a thousandfold better… His father (Amitabh Bachchan) was the best, but he is going to be better than the best. I am sure about it. As a person, he is wonderful, he is one of my closest friends.”
Kareena remembered her very first scene from ‘Refugee’ as well. She said, “It was a romantic scene between Abhishek and me. We were very comfortable from day one because he is part of my family and a close friend of mine. The chemistry was there right from the word go.”
There was a brief period in the early 2000s when Abhishek Bachchan and Kareena’s elder sister-actress Karisma Kapoor were reportedly all set to marry. The actress was even seen with the Bachchan family at several events.
However, Karisma and Abhishek parted ways and chose to marry other people. While Abhishek married actress Aishwarya Rai in 2007, Karisma tied the knot with Delhi-based businessman Sunjay Kapur in 2003. The couple got divorced in 2016.
