Thespian Nedumudi Venu passes away – Times of India


Veteran Malayalam actor Nedumudi Venu passed away in a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram. He was 73. The actor was reportedly rushed to the hospital on Sunday after experiencing uneasiness.

Nedumudi Venu had recently recovered from COVID-19. The actor’s sudden demise has left the entertainment industry devastated. M-Town celebs including Jayaram, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Tovino Thomas and many others have taken to their social media platforms to mourn the thespian’s passing away.

Nedumudi Venu was one of the seasoned actors in M-Town. He began his career with theatre and drama and later ventured into movies. Nedumudi Venu debuted in Mollywood in 1978 with ace director G Aravindan’s film ‘Thambu’. The actor later went on to handle versatile roles. His intricate acting skills have also attracted the attention of cinephiles outside Kerala. In his career spanning over four decades, Nedumudi Venu has been part of over 500 movies in Malayalam and Tamil languages. ‘Kattathe Kililoodu’, ‘Chamaram’, ‘Oru Minnaminunginte Nurunguvettam Margam’, and ‘His Highness Abdullah’ are some of his popular movies.

The actor has also featured in an English movie titled ‘Chaurahen’. He has bagged two National awards, and a special Jury mention, and half a dozen of state film awards for his performances. His collaboration with Mohanlal has presented some priceless gems. ‘Thenmavin Kombath’, ‘ Bharatham’, ‘Thanmathram’ are some of their best movies together.

On the work front, Nedumudi Venu’s last outing ‘Aanum Pennum’. The thespian appeared in the ‘Rani’ segment of the anthology. ‘Rani’ was directed by Aashiq Abu and written by Unni R, and it featured Nedumudi Venu and Kaviyoor Ponnamma as an old couple. Kaviyoor Ponnamma played a bedridden wife, while Nedumudi Venu, played her husband who makes a living out of some odd deeds.

On the work front, Nedumudi Venu next will be ‘Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham’, directed by Priyadarshan.
