Throwback: When Hema Malini opposed Dharmendra’s conservative thought of not allowing Esha and Ahana learn dance – Times of India

Hema Malini is not just an inspiring actress but also a graceful dancer. The veteran actress is a trained Bharatnatyam dancer and it seemed obvious that her daughters Esha Deol and Ahana Deol, would also follow classical dancing moves. Interestingly, their father, actor Dharmendra had initially opposed the idea of Esha and Ahana learning dance.

Speaking about the same, Hema Malini had once told a magazine that initially she was shocked with Dharmendra’s conservative nature. She had revealed that the veteran actor would tell his daughters not to short tops with tight-fitting jeans and Hema Malini didn’t agree with the same. She added that Dharmendra had objected to Esha and Ahana learning dance, concerned that they would join the film industry. Hema Malini had revealed that she objected the thought adamantly and stated that her daughters have their ‘own thoughts and voices’. Esha and Ahana went on to train in Bharatnatyam and have often performed at prestigious stage shows with Hema Malini.

Hema Malini turned a year older today and Esha had penned a loving note for her mom on the special occasion. Sharing a beautiful bonding moment, Esha wrote, “Happy birthday mamma! Love you! Stay blessed, happy and healthy. Always by your side through thick and thin, Your Bittu.”
