Mohinder Amarnath to play the role of his father Lala Amarnath in ’83 – Exclusive – Times of India


Kabir Khan is set to enthrall all cricket fans with ’83, which will trace the Indian cricket team’s journey of winning the World Cup over three decades ago. ETimes has exclusively learnt that Mohinder Amarnath, who was the vice captain of the winning team, will be a part of the sports entertainer. However, he will not be essaying himself in ’83, but will be seen playing the role of his father Lala Amarnath.

A source informed ETimes “We will get to see the real hero of the ‘83 World Cup winning team Mohinder Amarnath in the movie too. But he will play the role of his father in this movie. He will be seen smoking a cigar and appreciating his son’s game from the stands.” Not only Mohinder Amarnath but the audiences will also get a glimpse of the Indian skipper Kapil Dev in ‘83. The source added, “Kapil Dev will be seen sitting in the audience watching a match and there are many more real players who will be seen in this film.” It only remains to be seen how the audiences will react to both, the real and reel players in ‘83.

Directed by Kabir Khan, ’83 stars Ranveer Singh in the role of former Indian captain Kapil Dev, who led the winning squad. Deepika Padukone, who is also producing the movie, will be seen essaying the part Ranveer’s onscreen wife Romi Bhatia.
