Paresh Rawal finds connection between Will Smith’s Oscar slap and the Russia-Ukraine war; says ‘Comedians are in danger everywhere’ – Times of India

Will Smith slapping Chris Rock at the Oscars provoked intense opinions online, from fans, actors and even comedians. Back home, several Bollywood stars also took to their handles to share their thoughts on the shocking moment in television history.

Paresh Rawal, who stars in the film ‘Sharmaji Namkeen’, seemed to have found a connection between the Oscar attack and the current Russian invasion of Ukraine. Taking to his Twitter handle, the actor said, “Comedians are in Danger everywhere, be it Chris or Zelensky

The Ukraine President Zelensky was an actor and comedian before opting for a career in politics.

On the world stage, several comedians slammed the attack, calling it an “assault on their art.”

“Let me tell you something, it’s a very bad practice to walk up on stage and physically assault a comedian. Now we all have to worry about who wants to be the next Will Smith in comedy clubs and theatres,” Kathy Griffin wrote on Twitter.

The violent exchange began when Rock took verbal aim at Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head. Smith walked onto the stage and took a swing at the comedian and walked back to his seat and yelled, “Keep my wife’s name out of your f*****g mouth!”

Smith later returned to the stage to collect his Best Actor award and issued a partial apology in his winning speech and said, “Hope the Academy invites me back.”

The actor issued a formal statement on Tuesday, saying, “My behaviour at last night’s Academy Awards was unacceptable and inexcusable. Jokes at my expense are a part of the job, but a joke about Jada’s medical condition was too much for me to bear and I reacted emotionally. I would like to publicly apologize to you, Chris. I was out of line and I was wrong. I am embarrassed and my actions were not indicative of the man I want to be. There is no place for violence in a world of love and kindness.”

Pinkett Smith revealed in 2018 that she was diagnosed with alopecia. She has often discussed the challenges of hair loss on Instagram and other social media platforms.

The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences condemned Will’s actions and launched an inquiry into his slapping of presenter Chris Rock.

Rock, on the other hand, has chosen not to file a police report.
