Singer Qaran on Ileana D’Cruz: She has the ability to speak volumes on screen with just her eyes – Times of India

After impressing one and all with his chartbuster songs like, ‘Tareefan’, ‘Haye Oye’ and others, singer Qaran is back with a new music video, ‘Ooo Ooo’ featuring the very beautiful Ileana D’Cruz. In an exclusive interview with ETimes, the young singer opened up about working with the Bollywood actress, a singer he looks up to in Bollywood, his dream collaboration and more. Excerpts…

Your song ‘Ooo Ooo’ has just been released. What kind of reactions have you been getting from the audience?
The reaction has been very positive so far. I feel very grateful for all the love that the audience has shown for my song.

Tell us the story behind the song?
I just woke up one day in a very good mood and hit the studio instantly. The record came out in a seamless flow and I had a lot of fun making it.

How was your experience working with Ileana D’Cruz?
Working with Ileana was a blast. She brings a very positive energy on set and really lights up the screen in every frame. We got along very well from the moment we met and the chemistry showed on screen.

What is that one thing that makes Ileana stand apart from the others?
In a narrative driven music video, being able to convey emotion without the assistance of any dialogues is a very useful skill, and she has the ability to speak volumes on screen with just her eyes.

The song ‘Tareefan’ changed your career for good. Do you agree?
‘Tareefan’ was definitely the start I wanted as an artist vis á vis the overwhelmingly positive response the song received and still does. Every artist aspires for their debut single to reach such heights.

Name one recent song that you absolutely loved…
The song ‘Gul’ by Anuv Jain is simply gorgeous.

What are your thoughts on contemporary music in India?
I think music in the non-film space undoubtedly has a very bright future but is definitely still trying to find its footing and identity on the international stage.

Is there anybody you look up to in the industry?
I love AR Rahman and the change he brought to Indian music in the 90s and early 2000s.

Who would your dream collaboration be with?
I’d love to do a record with Drake.

What’s next?
Hopefully a lot more music!
