‘Top Gun: Maverick’ box office collection – Day 1: The Tom Cruise starrer collects Rs 2.5 crore – Times of India


Tom Cruise has returned to the ‘Top Gun’ franchise after 36 years. The Hollywood star reprising his role as Lt. Pete Mitchell aka Maverick in the film. The film is a sequel to the 1986 hit movie and was shot over two years ago. The release of the film was delayed due to the COVID pandemic.

Now, the film has hit the theatres on May 27, 2022. According to the BoxOfficeIndia report, the film earned Rs 2.5 crore at the box office on its opening day. Also, the Tom Cruise starrer collected Rs 25,00,00 on Wednesday and Rs 1, 50, 00, 000 on Thursday during its paid previews.

The report further stated that the film is scoring huge in North America and can go up to $150 million on the weekend.

The film picks up thirty years after the events of the first installment and sees Maverick returning to the Top Gun institute and training a group of graduates, including Rooster, the son of his late wingman Goose, for a specialised mission.

Helmed by Joseph Kosinski, the film also stars Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell, Lewis Pullman, Ed Harris and Val Kilmer.
