Kamal Haasan acknowledged that filmmakers like Lokesh Kanakaraj are making good content, but emphasized that they cannot be compared with filmmakers like KS Sethumadhavan or Adoor. Supporting his statement, he elaborated that filmmakers like Lokesh Kanakaraj are making sensible films in a commercial space, however, Adoor is outside that space and firmly standing there are doing what he wants.
Expressing his immense respect for Adoor, Kamal Haasan added, “Whereas Adoor Saab is outside of the industry, firmly standing there and doing what he wants to do, without the temptations of seeing this success. He believes in a kind of cinema and does that. We will always have that respect.”

Kamal Haasan further added that he respects Adoor Gopalakrishnan, as much as he respects Ramesh Sippy of ‘Sholay’, and stated that both are necessary for the film industry.
The superstar also mentioned that the concept of pan-Indian films isn’t really novel, as films like ‘Chemmeen’ from Malayalam had crossed that mark decades ago. He shared that he watched the movie without subtitles, and so did the audience in Tamil Nadu and India, and the pan-Indian fever had started much earlier than most of us realized.
