NCB chief probing Bollywood drug case related to Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, awarded ‘Medal for Excellence in Investigation’ – Times of India

Sameer D Wankhede the Zonal Director of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Mumbai, who has been working on the drug case that emerged from the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, has been awarded a ‘Medal for Excellence in Investigation’.

Wankhede and his team have been spearheading the investigation into the drugs racket in Bollywood since September 2020. His team arrested several people related to the drugs trade and also filed a charge sheet against Sushant’s girlfriend Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty. The two are currently out on bail.

According to reports on PTI, the NCB working under him also questioned several Bollywood A-listers including Deepika Padukone, Sara Ali Khan, Shraddha Kapoor, Rakul Preet Singh and several others in connection with the case.

Besides this, the team has also reportedly brought down several drug lords and drug kingpins since starting this investigation.

The medal was constituted in 2018, with the objective to promote high professional standards of investigation of crime and to recognize such “Excellence in Investigation” by investigating officers.

In the latest on the Sushant Singh Rajput death case, it was reported that a special NDPS court denied bail to Rajput’s flatmate, Siddharth Pithani, who was arrested by the NCB on May 28 this year from Hyderabad and is currently in judicial custody.

He has been booked under section 27 (A) (financing illicit traffic and harbouring offenders) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, among other charges.

Pithani had sought bail claiming that he had been framed up in a false case. He was never found in possession of any drugs and nothing that could suggest he was involved in drug trafficking was recovered from him, the bail application said.

However, the special public prosecutor Advait Sethna argued that incriminating photos, videos and other material were recovered from Pithani’s cell phone which showed that he used to procure drugs in large quantities when he stayed with Sushant.
