The storm has seemingly passed for actress Rhea Chakraborty, who will soon appear on the silver screen in the upcoming film ‘Chehre‘ that features Amitabh Bachchan and Emraan Hashmi in lead roles. The film, directed by Rumy Jafry, was in the news last year for featuring the actress who was mired in controversies that spiralled out of the Sushant Singh Rajput death case. Around the time, rumours were rife that the actress would be ousted from the film. However, the makers, including producer Anand Pandit, didn’t give in to the drama and instead chose to wait out the storm, all while standing by their actress.

ETimes caught up with the producer for an exclusive chat to find out what was his state of mind was when he found out that the actress of his film was making headlines for the wrong reasons. Pandit brushed off, saying, “I didn’t see any controversy as far as my film was concerned. My cast signed their agreements and they did a fantastic job”.

When asked if he was, at any point, concerned that Rhea’s personal life controversy will affect the film in any manner, he said, “Whatever happens in their private lives–whether it’s Rhea or anyone else–it is their job to handle it. I don’t think we have a right to react to that because we are in the business of making films and it is a wise thing to keep it like that”.

Following Chakraborty’s arrest in a drug case that emerged out of the SSR death case, several Bollywood stars came out in support of the actress, but team ‘Chehre’ maintained a stoic silence. “Those who felt the need to react on it could react. We had conviction in Rhea, and still do, even today. She has done a fantastic job in this film and you guys will love to see her on-screen,” assured the proud producer.

‘Chehre’, is a crime thriller that is slated to hit theatres next Friday, August 27. The film will see Amitabh Bachchan play the role of a retired prosecutor. It is among the first films to line up for a theatrical release as Covid-19 restrictions ease around the country.
