Heartbroken Rhea Chakraborty worries for women in Afghanistan, says, “#smashthepatriachy, women are human too” – Times of India

Heartbroken Rhea Chakraborty has penned a note on Instagram urging global leaders to stand up for the women and minorities in Afghanistan as Taliban insurgents took control of all the major cities there. Urging that patriarchy must be smashed, Rhea wrote, “While women around the globe fight for pay parity, women in Afghanistan are being sold – They have become the pay. Heartbroken to see the condition of women and minorities in Afghanistan. Urge the global leaders to stand up for this ! #smashthepatriachy. Women are human too.”

Last year, when Rhea Chakraborty was being questioned by the Narcotics Control Bureau, in an investigation related to Sushant Singh Rajput’s death, the actress had raised this slogan. Rhea was snapped in a black t-shirt that announced, “Roses are red, violets are blue, Let’s smash patriarchy, Me and you.” She received a lot of support from Bollywood for the same.

Rhea will soon be seen on the big screen in Rumy Jafry directed ‘Chehre’. This thriller drama features Amitabh Bachchan and Emraan Hashmi in the lead. When the filmmaker was asked if Rhea’s personal life controversy would affect the film in any manner, Rumy had told ETimes, “I don’t think the film will suffer because of Rhea’s personal life controversy. I will admit that I felt it would have affected the film, had it released last year. Everyone knows what a furore the media caused with the whole Sushant Singh Rajput case and Rhea’s arrest. Last year, she was a ‘witch’, a ‘golddigger’ and whatnot; this year she was declared as the ‘most desirable woman’. This shows there has been a change in the perception of people. So, I really don’t feel the film will have an adverse effect because of what happened with Rhea last year”. ‘Chehre’ is gearing up for a theatrical release on August 27.
