Kareena Kapoor Khan reacts to reports of her demanding Rs 12 crore to play the role of Sita for the FIRST time – Times of India

Kareena Kapoor Khan created controversy after reports were rife that she had hiked her remuneration to Rs 12 crore to essay the role of Sita for an upcoming reimagining of Ramayana. The film apparently demanded a long time commitment from her. Now, the actress recently reacted to the reports for the first time.

Kareena has kept mum during this entire controversy where she apparently hurt religious sentiments by hiking her fees to play Sita. In a recent interview with a news channel, the actress was asked about the issue and about other actresses coming out in support of her. Although Kareena’s reply was indecipherable, she just shook her head and said, ‘yeah, yeah…’

Although the actress had received backlash from people on social media, she also found support from a lot of her contemporaries from the industry. Actresses like Taapsee Pannu, Priyamani, Pooja Hegde and others defended the actress.

Reacting to the reports, Taapsee told a news portal that you will always read about this problem, the issue of hiked salary with women. However, she questions, why not? According to her, Kareena is one of the biggest female superstars we have in the country and if she commands a certain salary for her time, it’s her job. She also went on to point out that other mythological characters that are played by men don’t do it for free.

In another interview, Priyamani too stated that if a woman is asking for what she deserves it is because she deserves it. According to her, that is Kareena’s market thing and she deserves what she is asking for. Priyamani also added that there is nothing wrong with asking for a specific amount if you think you deserve it.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Kareena will next be seen in ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ co-starring Aamir Khan in the lead role. Apart from this, she also has Karan Johar’s ‘Takht’ and her new venture in collaboration with Hansal Mehta and Ekta Kapoor.
