An emotional Kabir Bedi says Parveen Babi battled mental health issues throughout her life – Times of India


Parveen Babi, who ruled the silver screen in the ’80s and ’90s, was in a relationship with Kabir Bedi and there are so many stories about their troubled relationship. Even in his memoir, Kabir has stated that he was feeling alone, empty and dejected in his open marriage with former wife, late Protima Gupta and it was Parveen Babi who filled that void.

During a recent interview, the veteran actor recalled how his relationship with Parveen Babi started a new chapter in his life and he will always be grateful to the late Bollywood diva. He also opened up on the reason behind their relationship falling apart.

The ‘Octopussy’ actor revealed that Parveen Babi had to battle mental health issues throughout her career. Speaking to Pinkvilla, Kabir Bedi shared that Parveen Babi was an extremely sensitive and intelligent woman and with her enormous love and a sense of togetherness, she had filled the void in his life.

Kabir Bedi also admitted that despite so much in love Parveen’s deteriorating mental health took a toll on their relationship. The veteran actor regrets when the actress was suffering the most from mental illness he was basking on the glory of his success in Europe. The celebrated actor also thanks Parveen Babi for all the things she gave him in life.

Incidentally, Kabir played the lead in the Italian TV series ‘Sandokan’ in 1976 and was in Europe shooting for the same. Unfortunately, this was the time when Parveen’s mental health had worsened.

For the unversed, the seasoned actor has been married four times – Protima Bedi was his first wife, British fashion designer Susan Humphreys, his second wife, and TV presenter Nikki Bedi being his third. At 70, Kabir Bedi married Parveen Dusanj.

On the work front, Kabir Bedi will next be seen in the upcoming Telugu film ‘Shaakuntalam’.
