After recording a good weekend at the box office, it seems that the Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Samrat Prithviraj‘, could not maintain its hold over the ticket windows. The historical flick saw a big drop in collections of around 50% on its first Monday at the box office.

The film earned an estimated Rs 5 crore, which is a drop of over 50% from its first-day collection of an estimated Rs 10 crore, states a report on boxofficeindia.com.

The film’s total collection now stands at an estimated Rs 44 crore nett, a collection it has earned in five days. If the film continues at this pace, it will comfortably cross the Rs 50 crore mark by the end of its first weekend.

The limited competition for the next few weeks as far Hindi films go, will help the film get some good numbers as compared to most other post-pandemic releases.

‘Samrat Prithviraj’ collected over Rs 39 crore in its first weekend. The film directed by Chandraprakash Dwivedi was released on June 3 in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu and made at a budget of Rs 175 crore.

Director Dwivedi, in a statement, said, “We have always felt that a film like Samrat Prithviraj will make every Indian proud and I’m hopeful that this strong weekend will propel more and more people to come to the theatres and witness the life of India’s glorious historical hero Samrat Prithviraj Chauhan on the big screen! We tried to create a visual spectacle befitting the heroics of the mighty king and I’m happy with how the start of the film has been at the box office.”

The film, which was previously titled ‘Prithviraj’, is based on the life of Rajput king Prithviraj Chauhan, played by Kumar.

It also stars Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar, Sanjay Dutt and Sonu Sood.

Prior to its release, the film was made tax-free in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
