AR Rahman returns to Malayalam cinema after three decades; ‘Cholappenne’ from‘Malayankunju’ out! – Times of India


Fahadh Faasil starring ‘Malayankunju’ is slated for release on July 22, and ahead of the release, the makers have launched the first single from the film. Titled ‘Cholappenne’, the lyrical song is special for many reasons, including music maestro AR Rahman’s return to Malayalam cinema after nearly three decades! AR Rahman has earlier composed for the 1992 release ‘Yodha’ starring Mohanlal and Jagathy Sreekumar, directed by Sangeeth Sivan. Penned by Vinayak Sasikumar, and crooned by Vijay Yesudas, ‘Cholappenne’, is a mellifluous composition by the iconic AR Rahman. The slow-paced composition, with the soulful voice of Vijay Yesudas, melts right into your heart. The song surely has an old-world charm and has struck a chord with music lovers.

“Here’s the first track from Malayankunju. Composed by none other than A.R. Rahman. rendered by Vijay Yesudas. #Malayankunju #Cholappenne,” Fahadh Faasil said, launching the song.

Rajisha Vijayan who is a part of ‘Malayankunju’ and also the song, was over the moon to be a part of AR Rahman musical. “After 30 years when the maestro @arrahman sir is returning to Malayalam cinema, I feel the luckiest to be able to be on the visuals of his creation. Cholappenne is here and she is beautiful. Written by @vinayaksasikumar and sung by @thevijayyesudas 😊 Deepest gratitude to Fasil sir, Fahadhikka, @maheshnarayan_official and the director himself @sajimonprabhakar 🙏🏼♥️,” she said.

Directed by Sajimon Prabhakar, the upcoming film is backed by veteran filmmaker Fazil, and his son Fahadh Faasil is headlining it. The screenplay and cinematography are done by Mahesh Narayanan, while the music is done by AR Rahman. Arju Benn has edited the movie. Along with Fahadh Faasil, and Rajisha Vijayan, ‘Malayankunju’ also has actors Indrans, Jaffar Idukki, Deepak Parambol in some pivotal roles.
