‘Raksha Bandhan’ box office collection Day 1 early estimate: Akshay Kumar starrer earns around Rs 8 crore – Times of India

Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar’s ‘Raksha Bandhan’ hit the theatres on Thursday. The film clashed with Aamir Khan’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ at the box office. According to early estimates, the film has scored less than the Aamir Khan starrer.

Directed by Anand L Rai, ‘Raksha Bandhan’ is a family drama which speaks about the issue of dowry. The film earned around Rs 7.5 – 8 crore on its first day, reports Boxofficeindia. The report further stated that the film did good business in Gujarat while it scored poorly at the box office in Mumbai, Kolkata, Pune and South, as the content is more for the Hindi-speaking belts. Reportedly, the film showed improvement over ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ as the day progressed but only where Raksha Bandhan is celebrated as a festival.

Recently, Akshay Kumar-starrer ‘Raksha Bandhan’ and Aamir Khan’s ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ faced the boycott trend on social media for different reasons. Reacting to the ongoing boycott trend in India, Akshay during a promotional event in Kolkata urged people not to get involved in such activities. Talking about the same, Akshay had said, “If you don’t feel like watching the movie, then don’t. It’s a free country and the film is out there, so if someone wants to watch it or not, it’s up to them. I would like to tell you, no matter which industry it is, be it the clothing industry, film industry or anything else, all of this help the economy. But doing things like boycotting movies, it doesn’t make sense.”

Directed by Aanand L Rai and written by Himanshu Sharma and Kanika Dhillon, the film also stars Sadia Khateeb, Sahejmeen Kaur, Smrithi Srikanth and Deepika Khanna.
