After kick-starting its first-day collection at the box office way below expectations, Aamir Khan starrer ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ has now closed the week at a little over Rs 50 crore nett.

After doing a decent business during its first extended weekend, the film spiralled downwards. The film even saw a drop of about 80 percent in its collections on Tuesday. The Advait Chandan directorial reportedly managed to close the week at Rs 50.35 crore approximately, a report on boxofficeIndia.com stated.

The film has been mired in controversy after netizens called for a boycott because of Aamir’s statement about intolerance in the country. Protests were seen in some parts of the country like Punjab and Varanasi. Several shows of the film were reportedly cancelled due to low occupancy. A complaint has been filed against Aamir and others for allegedly “disrespecting the Indian Army and hurting Hindu sentiments” in ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’.

‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ is an official Hindi adaptation of the Hollywood classic film, ‘Forrest Gump’. The film originally starred Tom Hanks in the lead role. The Hindi remake also featured actors like Mona Singh and Naga Chaitanya in key roles.

After postponing the release for a long time, the makers released it on August 11 where it locked horns with the Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar starrer ‘Raksha Bandhan’.
