‘Appan’ cinematographer Sudheesh Pappu passes away – Times of India


Popular Malayalam cinematographer Sudeesh Pappu, widely known as Pappu, breathed his last on Monday, 14th November. Reportedly, Pappu was hospitalized for some months due to a rare disease called Amyloidosis. He was aged 44.

Pappu was born in Thrippunithura, Ernakulam, and took his primary education from Ernakulam Kendriya Vidyalam. Although Pappu majorly worked as a cinematographer for several Malayalam films, he made his debut as an assistant cameraman for the Bollywood film ‘Chandni Bar’ which was released in the year 2001 and was directed by Madhur Bhandarkar. Pappu also cranked the lens for the superhit Bollywood film ‘Dev D’ directed by Anurag Kashyap.


In the Malayalam film industry, Sudheesh Pappu’s debut work was as a cameraman for Dulquer Salmaan’s action entertainer film ‘Second Show’ which was released in the year 2012. Later Pappu worked as a cinematographer for several notable Malayalam films such as ‘Koothara’, ‘Ayaal Sassi’, ‘Rose Guitarinaal’, ‘Eeda,’ and ‘Njan Steve Lopez’. His most recent work was for the Sunny Wayne starrer ‘Appan’ which was directed by Maju.

Popular director Lal Jose posted an emotional Facebook note on Pappu saying that he met Sudheesh during the sets of his film ‘Rasikan’ in the year 2004. Lal Jose described Pappu as a silent and innocent young man with whom he had years of friendship and memories. Lal Jose also mentioned in his note that it was his wish to work with Pappu for a full-length feature film.

Meanwhile, several popular Mollywood celebrities have also taken to their respective social media handles to mourn the loss of the ace cinematographer.
