Punjabi singer-cop Kuljit Singh Rajeana booked for promoting gun culture in his song – Times of India

The Bhagwant Mann Government recently outlawed the promotion of violence and gun culture in songs and other media. According to the revised arms license of the state, in Punjab now there is zero tolerance against the promotion of violence. And Punjab police are booking artists and music companies that are still showcasing weapons in their songs. Recently, Punjabi singer Kuljit Singh Rajeana has also been booked as reports suggest his new song ‘Mahakaal’ endorses gun culture.

According to the reports, the lyrics of the song promote violence, and thus, FIR was registered against the singer. Post the FIR the song was taken down from YouTube. And since the singer himself is a public servant, posted as a constable in Punjab police, Monga, he has been booked under IPC 188 of IPC ((disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant).

Reportedly, in his defense, the singer has said he and his promoters had no knowledge that the song was released online. They were not even aware of the ban.

Further, according to Moga Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gulneet Singh Khurana, the case has been filed against Kuljit and departmental action will also be taken against him as he is a part of the system.
