Brian Cox defends JK Rowling on the transgender debate – Times of India

Just two years ago, Harry Potter’s famous author, JK Rowling posted controversial tweets about the transgender community. Her views are still being reprimanded and since then most of the cast of Harry Potter have publicly ostracised her.
Recently Brian Cox, the star of Succession has come out in her defence and said that she should not be “castigated” for her supposed transphobic views. She has been defending the use of single sex spaces for women and people have been criticising her.
Brian Cox said in an interview with Sunday Times how JK Rowling is entitled to her own opinions about her own body and womanhood. Everyone is free to agree or disagree with her views, but one “can’t castigate” her. The TV series star said that instead the complex issue of transgender debates requires a conversation and not criticism around it.

His views indicate that it was not right for children who barely know their own minds and are still in their early teens to ask for a change of gender. “It could just be a fantasy,” he said. In that context, JK Rowling too is entitled to her own views.
