Apoorva Lakhia recalls the time when he got angry at Abhishek Bachchan at his house, calls him ‘Batman’, here’s why | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Apoorva Lakhia made his directorial debut with ‘Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost’ which starred Abhishek Bachchan and Lara Dutta. It was one of the initial films of Abhishek’s career in 2003, after he made his debut with ‘Refugee’ in 2000. In a recent interview, Apoorva spoke about his association with the Bachchans.
In a recent interview, Apoorva praised Abhishek and said, there is nobody like him. He may be Amitabh Bachchan’s and Jaya Bachchan’s son and Aishwarya Rai’s husband but he is Abhishek! The ‘Ek Ajnabi’ director opined that if all the actors in the industry are superheroes – Salman Khan is Superman, Shah Rukh Khan is Spiderman – then Abhishek Bachchan is Batman. He isn’t a superhero but a relatable human being like Bruce Wayne who came from an affluent family – but is down to earth and wants to help people. Apoorva said that his superhero is a human being and that’s Abhishek Bachchan who is a Batman.
However, Apoorva had once gotten angry with him. Here’s why! He was meeting Abhishek to discuss the script of ‘Mumbai Se Aaya Mera Dost’ in which he was showing a lot of interest. The film was produced by Pahlaj Nihalini’s son Vishal Nihalini and they used to visit Abhishek’s house together for discussions. They had meetings for months. But that’s when Abhishek’s film with Akshay Kumar and Karisma Kapoor, directed by Suneel Darshan flopped, said Apoorva. Which is why Abhishek got apprehensive if he should sign this film which had this village background, hence, he called Apoorva and told him that this film is great and should be made, but not with him. That left the filmmaker angry, as he scolded AB and said, ‘You’re Amitabh Bachchan’s son, he is Pahlaj Nihalini’s son but what about me? You’ve wasted my six months’.
A week later, Apoorva got a call from Abhishek’s office for a meeting. That’s when Abhishek asked him when he wants to start the film! The director said that perhaps anyone else in place of AB would have gotten angry but an actor wants to see if one is confident as a director and Abhishek saw his honesty perhaps. Thus, Apoorva says he has never found a friend like Abhishek and nobody has supported him as much as the Bachchan family.
The filmmaker’s next ‘Crackdown’ has just released on OTT on May 25.
