Jaya Bachchan says Manipur violence video is being discussed internationally, but not in India; calls it ‘a matter of shame’ | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Jaya Bachchan, who is known to wear her heart on her sleeve and never mince her words, recently criticised the Indian Government for not addressing the Manipur violence incident in parliament.

Jaya told reporters in Delhi that Manipur is being discussed internationally but not in our country. According to her, the Government does not want discussion. She further added that the Government is speaking about the issues in other states, but the ones in Uttar Pradesh and MP are silent.

The veteran actress also went on to say that they should explain what is happening in their states too. This comes after a months-old video showing two tribal women being paraded naked and molested by a group of men in Manipur surfaced online. Reacting to the viral video, Jaya had told ANI, “I felt so bad, I couldn’t see the entire video. I was ashamed. This happened in May, but went viral now. But, no one has said a single word in sympathy. This is about women’s safety. But you say things like we have selected 50 percent women for a panel.”

She further added, “It’s very frustrating. Every day something or the other is happening with women. In UP we don’t get to know what happens there, Yogi Adityanath Ji never says. What is happening in the entire country with women? Such humiliation. It’s very saddening.”
Earlier, a lot of Bollywood celebrities had expressed their anger and disgust over the video going viral on social media. Akshay Kumar, Renuka Shahane, Sonu Sood, Kiara Advani and others had shared their reaction on social media.
