Malayalam movie ‘2018‘ has been chosen as India’s official entry for Oscars 2024 in the Best International Feature Film category. Tovino Thomas‘s film was chosen for its global appeal.
Speaking about the same, President of Film Federation of India, Ravi Kottakarasaid to ETimes, “The film portrays a very relevant and important issue and the subject of mankind is destroying mankind.We are destroying nature and you saw what happened in Himachal Pradesh and in Kerala where buildings collapsed due to over construction. 2018 talks about the same issue.”
The other three films that were close competitors were Telugu film Balagam, Anant Mahadevan’s The Storyteller and Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway.
Kottakara said, “Both Balagam and Mahadevan’s films were very good and quite a few members also loved Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway.”
Directed by Jude Anthany Joseph, who co-wrote the screenplay with Akhil P Dharmajan, 2018 features a star-studded cast, including Tovino Thomas, Kunchacko Boban, Asif Ali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Narain, and Lal, alongside an ensemble supporting cast.
2018 not only narrates the tragic events of the floods but also highlights the indomitable spirit of humanity in the face of adversity. 2018 turned out to be a massive hit at the box office.
The 96th Academy Awards will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2024 at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles.
