‘I had finalised a script for Irrfan Khan, but he left us all before I could approach him,’ says ‘Bagha Jatin’ director Arun Roy – Exclusive – Times of India



Arun Roy’s latest release, ‘Bagha Jatin’ starring Dev Adhikari, is receiving positive responses from the audience and the critics. The film, a tribute to the indomitable spirit of the freedom fighter Jatindranath Mukherjee, known as Bagha Jatin, was released on October 20. In an exclusive conversation with ETimes, Arun Royspoke about the film and making films without restricting them to his territory.However, amidst the creative fervour, there was a poignant moment when Roy took a reflective pause to share his thoughts on the late Bollywood actor,Irrfan Khan.
The celebrated actor, the late Irrfan Khan, left an indelible mark on Indian and international cinema and left a void that echoed across the creative realms. Roy reminisced about the profound impact Khan had on the world of acting. When asked about actors whom he would love to work with other than actors from the Bengali film industry, Roy revealed, “It’s a long list. But I wanted to work with Irfan Khan, and I had also finalised a story for him. But unfortunately, before I could approach him, he left us.”
“Irfan was and will be India’s finest actor. Not just in Mumbai, but he is loved all over the country and across industries. I wanted to work with him, but my dream remained unfulfilled, which can never come true,” he added.
Roy further spoke about his favourite actors. “Other than Irrfan, my favourite actors are Pankaj Kapur, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Kay Kay Menon, and many more. In the South, there is Mammootty, sir; Allu Arjun has his own charm; and many others. I have a long list of actors with whom I wish to work,” he concluded.
