Not Sanjay Dutt but THIS actor was the first choice for Mahesh Bhatt’s ‘Sadak’ | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

While Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt took the lead roles in this Mahesh Bhatt-directed blockbuster ‘Sadak’, it’s less known that Jackie Shroff was the initial choice for the hero’s part. ‘Sadak‘ went on to become a turning point in Sanjay Dutt’s career, even though it was the villain who shone the brightest.

In 1991, ‘Sadak’ became a box office sensation, making significant wealth for its creators.

Although Sanjay Dutt’s performance was highly appreciated, the real star was Sadashiv Amrapurkar, who portrayed the infamous Sadak Ki Maharani.
Jackie Shroff, famous for hits like ‘Ram Lakhan,’ ‘Parinda,’ and ‘Tridev,’ was the original choice for the lead role. At the time, he was considered a surefire guarantee of success. However, the character of Ravi ultimately went to Sanjay Dutt, marking a turning point in his career.
Sadashiv Amrapurkar’s portrayal of the antagonist in the film was remarkable and earned him a Filmfare Award. He depicted the character of Sadak Ki Maharani, a eunuch, in such an unforgettable manner that it left the audience astonished. The film was acclaimed for its storytelling, acting, and music, especially the chemistry between Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt.
A sequel, ‘Sadak 2,’ was released on an OTT platform during the lockdown, featuring Sanjay Dutt in a significant role. Mahesh Bhatt mentioned that the sequel wouldn’t have been possible without him. Unfortunately, ‘Sadak 2’ received poor ratings and was considered a disaster.
