Did you know Aamir Khan suggested Sharat Saxena’s name for Vikram Bhatt’s ‘Ghulam’? | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Sharat Saxena received immense appreciation for playing a powerful villain in Vikram Bhatt‘s ‘Ghulam‘ in 1998. However, not many know that it was Aamir Khan who suggested his name to the filmmaker for the role.
In an interview with Rajshri Unplugged, Sharat Saxena said that it was Aamir who had suggested his name for the role as he felt the actor would “look good in a boxer’s role.” Sharat later met Khan at the producer’s house for a success party and asked him about the role.

In the same interview, Saxena added that despite getting praise for his performance, he did not get much work after Ghulam. The actor revealed that the industry shut down because of Gulshan Kumar’s sudden demise. No one was announcing films, no one was releasing films. So he did not get the work he could have gotten in that period and that he believes was a tragedy in his life.

During the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne in August, Rani Mukerji shared a fascinating anecdote about the film. Aamir Khan, Mukesh Bhatt, and Vikram Bhatt, in their wisdom, believed her voice needed a more ‘shrill’ tone, leading them to decide on dubbing for her. Rani revealed, “They unanimously chose to dub my voice, thinking that mainstream actresses should possess a shrill tone. They were skeptical about women having a voice like mine—’sexy and very empowering.’”

The film had received positive reviews from the audience and the critics alike. The song, ‘Ae Kya Bolti Tu’ is one of the most popular and loved songs from the movie.
