Sandeep Reddy Vanga dismisses controversy over ‘non-consensual kiss’ in Kabir Singh as noteworthy | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

Director Sandeep Reddy Vanga, amidst the buzz surrounding his upcoming film ‘Animal’ starring Ranbir Kapoor, brushed off discussions concerning the controversies enveloping his previous blockbuster, ‘Kabir Singh‘.
In an interview with CNN-News18, Sandeep asserted that he didn’t dwell on the criticisms surrounding the film’s non-consensual kiss scene, deeming it unworthy of his serious consideration.
Addressing the controversy, he remarked that he didn’t think much about it and didn’t think that Kabir Singh was a misogynistic film. He said that only four-five people felt offended and made noise about it. Sandeep also said that he never took them seriously.
When confronted with the scale of dissent against the film, Vanga minimized it, suggesting that the criticisms were limited to a handful of individuals. He further added, “Four people wrote articles about it, and that inspired others to write more articles. There were not more than 20 people in total; it was their point of view. We should not talk about all that; bhool jao Kabir Singh ko (forget Kabir Singh).”
Both Shahid Kapoor and Kiara Advani, the lead actors of ‘Kabir Singh,’ have previously defended the film against the backlash. Shahid described the movie as ‘a dysfunctional love story,’ while Kiara emphasized the complexity of relationships and the nuances of forgiveness within them.
The director’s forthcoming release, ‘Animal,’ featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna, recently ignited conversations for a similar on-screen kiss, portraying a rebellious act against familial disapproval. With high expectations surrounding ‘Animal,’ projections indicate the film is expected to surpass Rs 100 crore globally on its opening day, aiming for monumental success at the box office.
