Animal beats Tiger 3 but stays behind Pathaan and Jawan – Times of India

Ranbir Kapoor and Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animalhas opened the floodgates at the box office, despite being 3 hours and 21 minutes long and getting A certificate from the censors. The film is expected to clock in about Rs 61 crores across languages with Hindi leading from the front with Rs 50.5 crore and around Rs 10 crore coming in from Telugu and rest from the remaining languages, as per industry tracker Sacnilk.It also happens to be the biggest box office opening for Ranbir Kapoor by a huge margin, as before Animal, Ranbir’s biggest day one opening was Rs 36 crore for his film Brahmastra; Part One-Shiva.

The response to the film has been so phenomenal that it has beaten Salman Khan’s latest release Tiger 3 for its day 1 collection which had called Rs 44.50 crore, with Rs 43 crore coming from Hindi. With an opening like this one can easily honour Ranbir Kapoor with the title of Superstar but the man falls short to Superstar Shah Rukh Khan who is having a dream run at the box office right now. Shah Rukh Khan had two releases this year and both have delivered more than Rs 1000 crores at the box office. While Pathaan made Rs 57 crores on day 1 with Rs 55 crore coming from Hindi, Jawan made Rs 75 crore on day 1 with Rs 65 crore coming from Hindi.
The trade would expect the film to hit a higher number for day 2 but it would be interesting to see how the film fares given the critics and a certain section of the audience aren’t very happy with the film. Besides Ranbir, Animal also stars Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Rashmika Mandana and Triptii Dimri.
