Pankaj Tripathi is one of the most competent actors in the movie business today, so when he took up the role of India’s late Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, everyone took notice. However, the the film Main Atal Hoon failed to weave magic at the box office,the journey of the film began on a difficult note. As much as Pankaj Tripathi was praised for his craft and acting in the film, he was let down by the over-simplified story telling. The film opened to just Rs 1.15 crore on Friday, as per Sacnilk.

Given that the late PM was one of the biggest architects of Modern India, including the Ram Mandir movement, it was expected that the film collection would spike in the following days. The film jumped by nearly 82 % on Saturday to collect Rs 2.1 crore and on Sunday, it saw a miniscule jump to collect Rs 2.40 crore, taking the three day total to Rs 5.65 crore, as per industry tracker Sacnilk. The film has been made on a reported budget of just Rs 10 crore and even by the most conservative numbers for its digital and satellite sales, the makers of the film are going to be in profit.
Main Atal Hoon tells the story of one of India’s biggest political leaders Atal Bihari Vajpayee, and the stages his life he went through – from India’s Independence movement to Emergency of 75 to India becoming a Nuclear state to Kargil war etc.
