Raveena Tandon reveals why she rejected Chaiyya Chaiyya song alongside Shah Rukh Khan: ‘I was dying to work with Mani Ratnam sir but…’ | Hindi Movie News – Times of India

A few months ago, choreographer Farah Khan had revealed that every heroine including Raveena Tandon refused to do Chaiyya Chaiyya and that’s when she discovered Malaika Arora because she was seeing her close friend Arbaaz Khan. And now, Raveena has revealed the reason why she turned down the iconic song from Dil Se alongside Shah Rukh Khan.
During a BBC Asian Network podcast, when Raveena was asked whether she had been approached for the song, she disclosed that Chaiyya Chaiyya organically came to her after she had done Sheher Ki Ladki and it became a very big hit.
“I remember SRK saying that ‘Mani sir wants to talk to you because he wants you to do the song for us. And I was in a very awkward situation because although I was dying to work with Mani Ratnam Sir but then just being offered an item song again, it would have been stereotyping myself and in those days people used to get typecast, you used to get stereotyped,” Raveena said.

However, she does not regret turning down the offer since she believes in the parallel life. “I believe that if I change anything the way it is I don’t believe I’d be sitting here talking to you,” she remarked.
She further shared her admiration for Shah Rukh Khan, with whom she has previously worked. “I love him. He is one of the warmest people on this planet,” she concluded.

On the work front, Raveena is currently basking in the success of her new series Karmma Calling. In 2021, she made her web series debut with Aranyak and returned to the big screen next year with KGF: Chapter 2, marking her Kannada cinema debut. In 2023, she was awarded the Padma Shri, the fourth highest Indian civilian honour. She is currently shooting for Welcome 3. She also has Patna Shukla and Ghudchadi which will have a digital release.
