Dunki vs Salaar: Box Office Battle in North America | Shah Rukh Khan | – Times of India



After India, North America (United States of America and Canada) has become one of the biggest hunting grounds for Indian films. In recent times films like Animal, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, RRR and the Baahubali franchise have done tremendous business there. And with Shah Rukh Khan having a dream run at the box office in 2023 with Jawan and Pathaan, one would have expected that his third film Dunki would also reap the same result. Dunki fared decently but failed to beat the score of Prabhas starrer Salaar- Part 1- Ceasefire, which released a day after the SRK starrer.

Salaar had a major head start in the box office race as it minted about US $3.8 million for its premiere and opening day, while Dunki opened to only US $ 858648. As the days progressed, Salaar continued to grow but at lesser speed while Dunki grew with every passing day with positive word of mouth publicity. Shah Rukh Khan’s star power and Rajkummar Hirani’s storytelling struck a chord in the North American markets.
By the end of the first 10 days of its release Salaar had minted about US $8.2 million, while Dunki scored US $ 7.1 million. Salaar ended its theatrical run in North America in January by earning around US $ 8.9 million (Rs 73 crore), making it the 10th highest grossing Indian film in North America after Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani,PK, Padmaavat, Dangal and Animal among others. While Dunki ended its run in February, with US $8,599,279 (Rs 71 crore).
