Kamal Kant, the mother of Kargil War hero Captain Vikram Batra, breathed her last on Wednesday at the age of 77. Captain Batra, immortalized in the film ‘Shershaah,’ was martyred at 24. Himachal Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu extended condolences, expressing prayers for the family’s strength.
Taking to X he wrote he is deeply saddened to learn about the passing of Mrs. Kamal Kant Batra, the mother of Captain Vikram Batra. He mentioned that his heartfelt prayers go out to the grieving family.

The news of Kamal Kant’s demise has left many in shock, including Shershaah’s producer, Shabbir Boxwala. In a word with Times Now, Boxwala shared that Mrs. Batra’s passing is a significant loss, emphasizing the need for strength for Vikram’s brother, Vishal.

Kamal Kant Batra, a former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, contested the 2014 elections in Himachal Pradesh’s Hamirpur. However, she resigned from her AAP membership after a few months, citing dissatisfaction with the party’s organizational structure and functioning.
Captain Vikram Batra, who earned the moniker ‘Shershah’ for his bravery, made the ultimate sacrifice during the Kargil War. At the age of 24, he led his troops to victory in seizing Point 4875. In a tragic turn of events, while trying to rescue a comrade, Lt Naveen Anaberu, Captain Batra exposed himself to enemy fire and lost his life.

The film ‘Shershaah,’ starring Sidharth Malhotra and Kiara Advani, pays tribute to the life and sacrifice of Captain Vikram Batra.
