Suhani Bhatnagar’s mother talks about tragically losing her daughter to dermatomyositis | – Times of India

Child actress Suhani Bhatnagar, who played the role of young Babita Phogat in Aamir Khan‘s Dangal, tragically passed away on Friday evening in Delhi due to medical complications. According to Bhatnagar’s family, the 19-year-old actor was suffering from dermatomyositis, a rare inflammatory disease that causes skin rash and muscle weakness.
Speaking to ANI about her untimely demise, Suhani’s mother Pooja teared up while recalling how her daughter’s talent had brought their family recognition and pride in society.”Every parent feels proud of their child. We were recognized everywhere as ‘Dangal girl’ Suhani’s parents. Our daughter made us very proud before she left us,” she tearfully shared.
Pooja also revealed that Aamir Khan had maintained contact with Suhani even after the film’s release. Despite Suhani’s illness, the family had chosen not to disclose the details to anyone, including Aamir Khan.
She said, “Aamir Khan was always supportive of her, but we had shared nothing about her disease with anyone, including him. Even when his daughter (Ira Khan) got married recently, he had invited us all properly, we also got a call. But we could not go as Suhani had her fracture at that time. Therefore, we could not travel.”

Tragically, Suhani’s condition worsened, leading to her diagnosis of dermatomyositis during her treatment at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS). Despite efforts to save her, she succumbed to complications arising from the disease.

“She was a brilliant girl and wanted to excel in everything that she did… She started developing swelling on her hand but we thought that it was just a skin disease… We took her to a few dermatologists but nothing helped. When we admitted her to AIIMS, she was diagnosed with Dermatomyositis. While treatment she got an infection and her body started producing fluids that collapsed her lungs and she succumbed to it,” Suhani’s mother said.
Suhani was admitted to AIIMS on February 7 and died on February 16. She was a resident of Sector-17 in Faridabad. Her last rites took place at the Ajronda cremation ground in the city.
