Robert Downey Jr won his first Oscar for his performance as Lewis Strauss in Christopher Nolan‘s ‘Oppenheimer’. It’s touted his best performance in many years and as he received his first Oscar, the actor’s speech won the internet. Users called it ‘GOAT‘ speech.
The actor began his speech by saying, “I’d like to thank my terrible childhood and The Academy..in that order,” further adding, “and my veterinarian … sorry … wife, Susan Downey.She found me a snarling refuge pet and loved me back to life. That’s why I’m here.”
He further said, “I needed this job more than it needed me. Chris knew it, Emma made sure the she wrapped – surrounded me with one of the greatest cast and crews of all time – Emily, Cillian, Matt Damon… it was fantastic and I stand here before you a better man because of it. You know, what we do is meaningful, and the stuff that we decide to make is important.”
Kareena Kapoor Khan shared this speech of Downey with ‘lovestruck eyes’, ‘claps’ and laughter emojis and called him a ‘genuis’. Bebo is known to be quite a fan of his!

Downey was nominated earlier for an Oscar in 1993 for his work in ‘Chaplin’ but couldn’t win it at that point. The actor said recently that he’s grateful he didn’t end up winning in 1993. Meanhile, Cillian Murphy won the Oscar for the ‘Best Actor’ for his role as the theoretical physicist in ‘Oppenheimer’.
